This instruction sheet outlines the essential steps to follow after undergoing a biopsy, covering both shave and punch biopsy procedures. Proper care is crucial for optimal healing and cosmetic results. Follow these guidelines closely and don't hesitate to contact the office with any questions or concerns.
Initial 24-Hour Care
Dressing
Applied Area: A dressing will be applied to the biopsy site.
Care: Keep the dressing dry and covered.
Showering: Refrain from showering for the first 24 hours to keep the dressing intact.
Post-24 Hour Care
Dressing Removal and Cleaning
Removal: After the initial 24 hours, gently remove the dressing.
Cleaning: Wash the biopsy area delicately using antibacterial soap and water.
Drying: Pat the wound dry with a clean cloth or towel.
Applying Ointment
Ointment Choice: Apply a generous layer of Vaseline or an antibiotic ointment like Polysporin, Bacitracin, or Neosporin.
Purpose: This keeps the wound moist and aids in the healing process.
Rebandaging
Frequency: Change the bandage daily.
Duration: Continue this routine until the skin heals or until it's time for suture removal, which could range from 7 to 14 days depending on the site.

Biopsy Results
Timeline: The biopsy results should typically be ready within 14 days.
Follow-Up: If you haven't received your results by this time, please call the office for an update.
